Heading into the backcountry, prepping a bug-out bag, or just want clean water on adventures? The Aquamira Frontier Pro Tactical Filter is your go-to. This thing is crazy light and compact—weighs just 2.5 oz and packs down tiny. It's a straw-style filter that connects right to your water bottle (fits standard 28mm openings like Platypus), hydration bladder tube, or you can just drink straight from a stream or pond. It's certified to remove 99.9% of nasty stuff like Giardia, Cryptosporidium, and bacteria down to 3 microns. Plus, the activated carbon (made from coconut shells) knocks out chemicals, chlorine, and bad tastes and odors. A cool feature is the Miraguard antimicrobial treatment that helps stop gunk like mold and mildew from growing inside the filter. It filters up to 50 gallons, and the flow rate is decent at about 500 ml per minute. You can even use it in 'gravity flow' mode to fill a bottle. It comes in an olive drab tactical color with a zipper pouch that doubles as a water scoop/bag. For viruses, you'd still need purification tablets, but for most backcountry water sources, this filter is a reliable, super-packable lifeline. Made in the USA, too.
