For many years in Miami-Dade, whenever an emergency was declared as a result of an impending hurricane, one of the precautions we have taken is corralling our buses. See pictures below.
The idea is to protect our newer buses with the oldest units in the fleet.
Buses are parked in close proximity to prevent damage
Roof hatches are secured (locked down) and all windows closed
Stop arms and crossing arms are secured only on the units in the perimeter of the corral.
This process has helped us reduced the damage caused by high winds during a hurricane. We have seen some damage to the units in the perimeter units but literally no damage to those beyond the perimeter.
Similarly, we protect the garage doors with older units as well. So far we have not lost any doors.
